The upgrading of a railway platform can also provide many elements of reflection in terms of technological innovation. In the Porta Nuova station in Torino, for example, the works were carried out without interrupting railway traffic, and only partially interfering with the flow of travelers.
The new platform is 55 cm high, as foreseen by the European standards for metropolitan rail services to facilitate access to trains. At the same time, a tactile route for the visually impaired people was installed and new benches, wastepaper bins and ashtrays were also installed. The manner in which the works were carried out attracted the attention of the French railways, whose delegation visited the shipyard in December 2016 to observe the works done, as interested in carrying out the same type of platform in Côte d’Azur.
