Stazione Porta Nuova Pescara

Pescara

Built in 1883 as a small station for local transport, when Pescara was once called Castellamare Adriatico, Porta Nuova is the second important railway station after the central station, and every day it is crossed by 107 local trains.

On January 15, 2008, the new building for passengers was completed according to a first project, but subsequently deeply modified by the Spanish architect Oriol Bohigas. The intervention was characterized by a significant novelty in the technological field, with the use of expanded clay, special for substrates of humidity sensitive floors.

It is a lightweight aggregate that, thanks to its cellular structure enclosed in a clinkerized primer, optimized the ratio of weight and strength where the track stopped.
