The Fiat factory in Melfi (also known as SATA, an acronym for Advan- ced Technology Automotive Company) is an industrial complex of the Fiat Group located in the municipality of Melfi, in Basilicata, precisely in the district of San Nicola.
SATA is one of the most important factories of the Turin group, and one of the most productive automotive factories in the world. The Melfi factory contributed to FIAT’s production recovery in the mid-1990s and to the growth in its market share in Europe. In addition, the strategic choice of the industrial group which had a high impact on Italian pro- ductivity took place in 2014 when Fiat decided to produce two of the most commercially-used (mostly export-oriented) models of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Group at this plant: the Fiat 500X and the Jeep Renegade, in addition to the existing production lines for the Fiat Punto.
The project involved two enlargements of building 100 (Assembly), and the construction of two new spaces called “open shed” (South side) and “closed shed” (North side).
The main activities were the construction of a metal structure covered in sheet metal, the leveling of the land and subsequent building of industrial flooring in concrete, the construction of tunnels for the protection of pedestrian crossings, the strengthening of the drainage network for rainwater, buffers to protect structures were added, the construction of a new heating system, the construction of a new electrical system and interference resolution.
