In 1972, on the outskirts of Cassino a new establishment was founded to build an economy car: Fiat 126. It will be a successful and long-lasting model, as production will continue in Poland until 2000.
In 1974, in the same factory, the production line for the Fiat 131, was planned and then manufactured in 1983.
Subsequently, the Fiat Ritmo, the new family car of the Italians, was also produced. In 1978, the Fiat plant in Rivalta and the one in Cassino as well, installed the Robogate Comau, a highly automated system that lightens and speeds up the work of the painting department.
In just over ten years, the company has become firmly rooted in the territory, employing many local people. In the meantime, in 1988, the assembly line of the Fiat Tipo was installed in the Cassino factory.
With the new millennium, the Cassino plant underwent a significant restruction phase concerning the dismantling of the old production lines which were replaced by those of the Fiat Stilo, manufactured as a 3 and 5 door sedan.
In 2001 the factory made a further technological leap when they decided to replace the Robogate with the Open Gate system, which offers greater efficiency and precision in the welding of the flanks. The production capacity of the plant rose to 250,000 cars per year, despite the decreasing sales of the Stilo, which was also proposed in 2003 in its Multiwagon version.
In June 2016, when the working chain for the new Alfa Romeo Giulia was fully working, the FCA factory in Cassino was officially renamed the Alfa Romeo factory in Cassino and in November 2016 the factory also started manufacturing the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, based on the same platform named Giorgio della Giulia.
The intervention involved the construction of a closed concrete prefabricated structure, to be connected to Building 0.
New metal framed carports were added to this surface. Other metal framing and mechanical framing works were carried out as well.
