Recupero ex sede municipale

Zanica (BG)

The restoration concerned the former headquarters of the municipality and the schools within the urban center of Zanica, in the province of Bergamo. The recovery of the building complex consisted in safeguar ding and enhancing its typological features. The urban spaces were redeveloped and specifically 14 housing units destined for poor families were built, as well as an Integrated Day Care Center and a two-level underground parking.

The project of the town square was characterized by the will to remove outside surface parking so as to return an urban space capable of aggregating and hosting local public events to the community.

In addition, the construction of an underground garage that was previously occupying most of the square was planned, so as to preserve the integrity of adjacent homes during all the working phases, summarized as follows: execution of diaphragms along all the perimeter and construction of structures in reinforced concrete, starting from the foundations to the floor screed on the square. It was all equipped with a ramp connecting the two levels, besides a tower for the elevator shaft. A system of wood and iron shelters and benches on the square characterized the new urban space.
