It is the largest and most articulated part of the entire historical town of L’Aquila, entirely safeguarded by the Code on Cultural Heritage: Aggregate 961 - S. Emidio, which entirely delimits the lower side of Piazza del Mercato on the left side of the Cathedral, extending over an area of about one hectare, up to via Marelli and via Tre Marie.
The extension of the urban aggregate, together with the articulation of the buildings, the widespread damage and the criticalities associated with the application of the relevant legislation, highlighted, since the beginning, a very delicate and complex investigation on the project, above all in consideration of the fact that together with the authorization to proceed (according to the Code on Cultural Heritage), it was also necessary to assess the adequacy of public funds.
More than thirty technical meetings were carried out before the defini- tion of the schedule for the interventions was finalized.
